A HOLISTIC APPROACH TO CALMING OUR DOGS
With July 4th weekend upon us here in the U.S., it’s important to be fiercely protective of our dog since so many are terrified of fireworks. Here are some ways to keep them safe and calm.
1. Make sure their collars and harnesses are well-fitted w/updated ID & any GPS trackers charged.
2. Try to have your dogs walked pre-fireworks & by experienced adults who have a bond & pay attention.
3. Beware of flight risks – even from the home – windows, doors, gates left open. Know where your dogs are. Be with them.
4. Make use of full-spectrum CBD for dogs if available like Pet ReLeaf’s.
5. Use the senses – calming scents like lavender, reggae, classical, & meditation music, Thundershirts & Mutt Muffs, grounding foods like root veggies, dim lights, safe space like a crate w/soft blankies, soothing touch from you.
6. Use energy healing & animal communication – contact me for appts or info.
7. Hire an R+ trainer to work through the fireworks fear for the future.
8. Attend July 3rd online concert & talk by @My_Zen_Pet1
I was quoted in Mella Pet Care’s blog this week, which was about the increasingly popular use of a holistic health approach for dogs. One thing mentioned in the article was the use of calming essential oils: “Aromatherapy and herbal remedies are often used to help alleviate anxiety in pets. For instance, the use of calming essential oils can have a significant impact on an animal due to their heightened sensitivity to scent, and vet-prescribed combinations of herbs can also help calm pets and increase their happiness.”
The article went on to discuss the role of health coaches:
“But in addition to holistic health treatments, how can we make healthier lifestyle choices consistently for our pets, to work towards long term chronic disease prevention and stress management? That’s where health coaches come in. By serving as accountability partners across several months to years, they’ll work with you to reexamine your lifestyle, as well as its impacts on your furry friend’s life, in order to identify personalized health goals and make sustainable shifts. Some doctors and vets have also seen that their patients have better outcomes if they work with a health coach.
Health coaches can suggest dietary changes, new pet care products to use, or relaxation techniques for your pet that can supplement more traditional medical treatments that they would get from a veterinarian.
For Zannah, pet health and wellness today means ‘harmony between mind, body, and spirit,’ and it means ‘thriving with balance.’ We all want to see our furry friends at their healthiest and happiest—holistic health care is another potential piece of the puzzle for helping manage care for chronic diseases, and for preventing them as much as possible.”

Be mindful that there is a link between chronic stress and chronic disease. As for the acute stress from situations like exposure to jarring fireworks, prepare in advance with the above tips so you can keep your dogs safe and as calm as possible. Reach out for a distance energy healing session, which can help manage stress, and make a list of contacts in the event of an emergency since dogs do get loose sometimes. That list can include the microchip company that likely helps with lost dog alerts, social media groups, neighborhood apps, local vets, pet supply shops, shelters and dog trackers like Jim Tierney (www.theintuitivewalker.com ). Let’s hope we never have to use that list and never have our dogs lost. Amen to that.
