Django is a 13 year-old mischievous angel. Born down south in North Carolina, he has often been referred to as a southern gentleman despite most of his years being lived in New York City. A few years ago, he packed up with his pack and road-tripped across country to California. His first year of life is a mystery to mom and dad since he is a rescue, but he wouldn’t be our wonderful boy without that lived experience, and we never would’ve found each other had he not gone through the challenging transitions to a shelter, to an inter-state road-trip, and to a foster home. Django has been friend and mentor to many dogs, including many new rescues and puppies, though he now gets grumpy with puppies. He loves all good people, and never forgets anyone, especially if they dole out treats. He has loads of personality from silly to bossy, but he generally has a delightful calm demeanor. Long sniff walks, road trips, and tug-of-war are his favorite things to do when not napping or getting belly rubs, but he is always game to take on adventures however exciting or banal as long as he is with his parents. Django is his mama’s favorite co-pilot and has always been a trooper on journeys, including his own health journey. He is the inspiration behind Well Beings Unleashed.
Special talents?
Django can detect chemotherapy and possibly disease itself.
He can transform from a dog to a teddy bear to a seal pup to a sea otter to a flying polenta in an instant.
He sleeps like a pro, eats like a horse, shreds cardboard like a machine, steals slippers like a thief, and wrestles like the little champ that he is.
He can also expand hearts.
Django, like most animals, has pure intentions, authenticity and tremendous sensitivity to feelings. He has also bravely protected his mom late at night on the street and nursed her back to health when she needed his TLC.
Best Friends.

“Django is my best friend. We got adopted around the same time, had the same dog walker, and introduced our moms so we could have lots of play dates and sleepovers. Django is the best wrestler and we were always so silly together. I miss him since we both moved, but am hoping for a wrestle-mania reunion for us low-riders soon. Woof!”

“PS Everyone always says how cute we look together. We know. We use that to our advantage to get extra treats.
“PPS Django’s mama Zannah is my auntie and always took great care of us, so she’ll take great care of your dogs, too. Can you give me a treat now for pawing this out?”

“Being Django’s mama has been the greatest privilege of my life. He’s a gift. May we together help dogs – all animals, in fact - around the globe get the love and protection they deserve and need.
Dogs teach us love and to be loved. They are the embodiment of love.
Django has been a match-maker on occasion like his mama. He introduced his best friend Ernie’s ‘pawrents’ who are now married with kids and Ernie.
Django is an activist. He has taken a stand and marched against animal abuse.
Django is an animal rescuer. He has helped mama rescue dogs off the street a few times – even if he was grumpy about that unneutered Husky.”

“Though I’m Django’s dad, he is a mama’s boy at heart. When I came into his mom’s life, he welcomed me with open paws, luckily. I guess I passed the sniff test. We became best buddies immediately. He even gave up his side of the bed for me. He has slept above his mama’s head ever since when he’s not under the bed in his role as ‘Cave Dog.’ Django would probably describe me as his fun parent and his mom as the nurturing one. I’m the one he runs to daily for chase or tug-of-war games, the one for whom he rolls over the most when he wants belly rubs, and the one whose face he licks from ear to ear. Djangsters!”

Django was my neighbor and I was lucky to spend time with him quite often, even taking care of him sometimes. Django may be small in stature, but he’s HUGE in personality & even more so in HEART.
He’d always greet me as if he hadn’t seen me in ages, and it would just make my day and melt my heart. Then he’d run to get a toy to play tug o’war, followed by belly rubs & cuddles. But watch out, he’s also known to steal a shoe or two!
Django is quite perceptive…he’s comforted me when I’ve been sick or had a bad day. A friend met him at my place soon after losing her dog. As soon as he saw her, he went straight to her and sat against her legs. Tears began to roll down her eyes. He intuitively knew in that moment that he was needed by my friend, which brought her great comfort.
We can all learn a lot from this sweet pup. If only we were able to see the world through his eyes, we’d always be in a happy place. He is truly one of a kind and brings joy to all those who are lucky enough to meet him!

“I’m proud to be Django’s made-up uncle. As someone who has had his fair share of world travels, I can attest that Django has also had his. Ok, he’s only gotten around the US, but he started his life down south, spent most of it so far in NYC, and then road-tripped from the east coast to the west coast to settle in California a couple years ago. As someone who lived many years in Brooklyn, I’m proud that Django is a Brooklyn ambassador to California now. I wish he’d also join me on some of my global adventures, but that may be pushing it. Though he doesn’t speak as many languages as I do, he can be considered bi-lingual - understanding English and communicating with animals. Django’s energy can bring you to a Zen vibe, and I’m proud to call him my dog friend.”

“He sleeps above my head on his own pillow if not in his cave (under the bed). He sometimes paws me to wake me up and wraps all four limbs around my arm like a koala bear.
He wines and dines with us - no wine for him.
He appreciates arts and culture, having attended many cultural events, which inspired his mixed media masterpieces (ripped cardboard and carrot nubs.)
He is quite the traveler and has hopped rides on many modes of transportation from ferries, escalators and cable cars to planes, trains, and automobiles.
He’s the host with the most from his own birthday parties with 20-50 dogs to his parents’ nuptial night where he served as Best Dog.
He has friends named Bear and Cat (and his rubber duckie), but they do not represent those species.”

"Django took me under his wing and showed me the ropes when I moved to Brooklyn.
He and his mom took me around the neighborhood and invited me for sleepovers.
He taught me how to share toys, how to sit for snacks and gave me a few lessons on the benefits of allowing older, more experienced dogs win at tug.
I miss him and hope we get to see each other soon so we can play while our moms drink wine."

“Django’s like that cool upperclassman who takes the nervous freshman under his wing and shows him the ropes...including rope toys, because that’s what he did for me! Coming from Kentucky as a pup, I learned so much about being a city dog from hanging with Django and his buddies, and of course my favorite Auntie Zannah! My momma and I were even asked to be emergency contacts for him and his family during their big cross-country move, and got to check in with them nightly and hear all about their adventures to new places (and new pet shops for toys and treats!) along the way! Django got to eat at all these outdoor restaurants and sleep in hotel beds. He got to climb mountains in Colorado and chase rabbits. He met horses, cows, goats and more dogs. He saw waterfalls, sand dunes, ancient caves, and got to eat some pizza crust, cheese, and cookies from doggie bakeries. He visited Best Friends Animal Sanctuary. He didn’t like the cable car, high suspension bridge or wearing the doggles they bought. I think I’d like that high bridge. He listened to live music like my dad plays and like my name makes. I miss them a lot but we have great memories of all the fun times we had! Aroo!”

“Django is one of my best friends. He had a great birthday party at the pet store. I got a kid bag (instead of doggy bag) and I still use the magnet.” - George
“Django is a chill guy who has a huge heart. He’s always there to support a friend no matter what the occasion. He cheerfully accepts affection and gracefully declines when he’s not up to the task. His love knows no bounds.” – Deidre, George’s mom
